Ship Operations

The plan is for the new Andrew Doria's maiden voyage is to retrace the route of the original ship to St. Eustatius. Upon arrival at the port of Oranjestad she will participate in a re-creation of the November 16, 1776 first salute.

  • The Board intends to operate the vessel with a crew of two or three paid professional officers supplemented by volunteer crew members.
  • The Board will document and register the vessel in the United States.
  • The vessel will be available for:
    • School tours
    • Sail training
    • Recreational sails
    • Deck tours
    • An educational platform focusing upon:
      • American history
      • Origin of the Unites States Navy
      • Dutch-American heritage
  • The vessel will spend about 6 months/year on the US east coast waters taking part in various educational, historic and commemorative events
  • Approximately six months each year the vessel will be in the Caribbean.
  • The vessel will participate in the annual Dutch-American Heritage Day celebration on St. Eustatius where it will re-enact the First Salute on November 16th.
  • Other Caribbean activiites will include:
    • School tours
    • Sail training
    • Inter-island sails, especially within the Netherlands Antilles
    • Educational programs
  • It is anticipated that the vessel will serve St. Eustatius as a tourist attraction and a source of regional pride the island played in the outcome of the American Revolution.
